2023 Fortlandia Design Team
Austin Design Lab received the unique opportunity to design and build an exhibit for the University of Texas's Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center's annual event "Fortlandia." Due to overwhelming positive feedback from the community Mars Base is now a permanently featured exhibit at the center.

Testimonials

Danny built our king bed from beautiful warm cherry wood and it's beyond anything I expected. It is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on and it looks modern, fresh and fits our home perfectly. Impeccable work!

Danny and Jason did an amazing job on our new custom banquette for our kitchen. Their design was carefully put together to fit our vision and our budget. The build and install was amazing. Custom steel brackets for the frame, and all solid hardwoods from board to trim. The paint was sprayed on using top of the line equipment offsite and turned out flawless. Everything done to the highest standards and quality. Very professional. They will be building us a table this fall. Thank you all at Austin Design Lab!

Working with you and your team was a joy! You went above and beyond our expectations with your creativity, communication and passion. We can't wait to see where your work leads you!
Patrick Moran, Operations Director Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

The remodeling of our bathroom was complete except for a bench to sit on while putting on socks and shoes, etc. We’d been unable to find a bench with a hinged top that could accommodate a couple of laundry baskets. When a friend suggested ADL, we sent them a sketch of what we wanted. Danny and Jason came to our house to measure where the bench would be installed, and to take note of the cabinetry it needed to harmonize with.
In the days that followed, they refined our sketch into an actual design and sent us 3D renderings of their proposal. In a friendly and productive dialog, we collaborated to perfect the design's details, including the choice of fabric for the bench’s cushion. When we couldn’t think of any more enhancements, we gave the go-ahead.
As fabrication of the bench proceeded, Jason went out of his way to obtain the fabric for the cushion. He kept us updated, and as the bench neared completion he sent us photos of the work in progress. Finally the bench was delivered, and it met our expectations in every way. It’s sturdy, beautifully crafted, and nicely finished. It’s built to last, and to be appreciated, by our descendants for generations to come.
What the bench’s inheritors will miss is the pleasure of working with Jason and Danny.
